The European Council on 21 May approved a first-of-its-kind law aiming to harmonise rules on artificial intelligence - the AI Act. This sets a global benchmark for the regulation of a technology drastically gaining use in business and daily life. The new legislation follows a ‘risk-based’ approach, which means the higher the risk to cause harm to society, the stricter the rules.
