Even as the city woke up to an overcast sky with the first pre-monsoon drizzle being reported in isolated places, Thursday turned out to be the hottest April day in eight years. India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz monitoring station – representative for Mumbai – put the maximum daytime temperature at 38.9 degrees Celsius. The city had on April 22, 2014, recorded a daytime temperature of 39 degrees Celsius. The hottest April day recorded in Mumbai was on April 14, 1952, when the mercury soared to 42.2 degrees Celsius.
