Rahul Gandhi will be questioned by the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday for the second day in the National Herald corruption case after Delhi saw high political drama and protests in the streets with many top Congress leaders detained on Monday. Former union minister P Chidambaram even alleged high-handedness in the midst of action by cops and said he had suffered a hairline fracture. Meanwhile, the BJP hit out at the grand old party for “celebrating corruption” in the form of demonstrations. Several other parts in the country saw similar dramatic scenes and demonstrations. As part of its money laundering probe against the Gandhi family, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is looking into suspected misuse of Congress party funds to take over Associated Journals Ltd through Young Indian Private Limited (YI), which resulted in the acquisition of all immovable properties of AJL as well. The allegations were first levelled by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, who filed a private complaint in November 2012 in a court in Delhi claiming that the Gandhis had committed fraud and misused party funds to purchase the company that ran National Herald newspaper. Two terrorists from Pakistan – linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit – were shot dead in a late-night encounter in Jammu and Kashmir. They intended to target the Amarnath yatra, which begins June 30, police said. The encounter – which took place in Srinagar’s Bemina area – comes amid a spate of attacks on civilians in the Valley. A cop suffered minor injuries during the security operation. The Madhya Pradesh government on Monday invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against the main accused in connection with the recent blade attack on a 38-year-old woman in Bhopal, home minister Narottam Mishra said. The government has also set up an SIT to ensure speedy trial of the case, he added. Microsoft will retire its oldest browser Internet Explorer on June 15 after 27 years of service. The company had been releasing warnings for the people and organizations still reliant on the browser’s service. A similar warning was issued in March too. The Internet Explorer app was first released in 1995 as an add-on package for Windows 95. It was, however, later provided for free as part of the package. The frantic bidding process to secure IPL media rights for the 2023-2027 cycle has come to an end, with the television rights being sold for a whopping ₹57.5 crore (per match) and digital for ₹50 crore (per match). News agency ANI has reported that the final count for the TV rights stands at ₹23,575 crore while the digital rights closed at 20,500 crore The names of the winners are yet to be disclosed but as per reports, Sony has won the TV rights, whereas for digital, the winner is either Viacom 18 or Jio.
