Uttar Pradesh police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old priest for allegedly issuing rape threats to Muslim women during a hate speech in Sitapur district on April 2, officials said. In a two-minute video that has gone viral on social media, Bajrang Muni Das, head of Maharshi Shri Lakshman Das Udasin Ashram, is seen threatening Muslim women while addressing a procession at Khairabad area. Das, however, maintained that the video was “distorted” to frame him under “false charges”. The Centre is set to start the process of collecting data on the representation of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) employees at all levels of government, according to an official order, marking the crucial first step in implementing reservation in promotion for these groups that have emerged as key electoral forces in recent years. Collection of quantifiable data on the inadequacy of representation of social groups is a prerequisite condition for providing quotas in promotion, according to a raft of judgments by the Supreme Court over the last two decades. The latest of these verdicts came on January 28, and the apex court has since refused to review its stand on the importance of data before implementing quotas. PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Prime Ministers’ museum on Thursday, unveiling a rich new look into India’s history through the life and work of the country’s premiers, which will be showcased with technologies such as holograms, augmented reality, kinetic sculptures and interactive kiosks and screens. People aware of the planning for the unveiling said among the artefacts to be featured are former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shatri’s Fiat car that he purchased for his family soon after taking office in 1964 and a digital feature on the country’s first PM, Jawaharlal Nehru. The arrest of the Kremlin’s one of the closest and most influential ally, Viktor Medvedchuk, by Ukraine is said to have angered Russia. Medvedchuk – the pro-Russian politician – who is believed to be one of the richest persons in Ukraine – was held on Wednesday in what was defined as “a special operation”, sparking enthusiasm in Kyiv, but irritation in Moscow. Abhishek Bachchan’s latest release Dasvi has been earning good reviews and praise from the audience as well, since it released last Friday. The film is about a politician (Abhishek) who goes to jail and decides to finish his Class 10 there. And it’s not just the audience who are praising him. Abhishek’s father actor Amitabh Bachchan has been effusive in his praise for the film. In a recent fan interaction, Abhishek addressed Amitabh’s praise and also revealed why he calls him bhaiyu on Twitter. Former spinner Harbhajan Singh has taken a shot at those who feel that India won the 2011 World Cup due to MS Dhoni alone. Harbhajan, who was part of India’s victorious World Cup campaign in 2011 at home, feels that it’s unfair to credit Dhoni alone for India’s ground-breaking World Cup win and mentioned that all 11 players were responsible for the team’s six-wicket-win over Sri Lanka in the final.
