Ahead of the Quad Summit 2022, the prime minister met the CEOs of prominent Japanese firms who have earned global recognition. PM Modi met the chairperson of NEC Corporation Dr Nobuhiro Endo in Tokyo. During the interaction, he hailed NEC’s role in India’s telecommunication sector and discussed opportunities in new and emerging technologies in India, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a tweet. At least 20 flights were diverted and around 100 delayed between 6 am and 10 am as wind speeds touching as high as 75 km per hour disrupted operations at the Delhi airport. Officials said a majority of the diversions took place between 6:30 and 9 am before normal operations resumed. Thirteen flights were diverted to Jaipur, two each to Lucknow and Amritsar, and one each to Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Indore. “This was largely on account of bad weather, with rain and strong winds…Strong winds can make it difficult to land aircraft, particularly during a thunderstorm spell,” said an official, who did not want to be named. Children won’t be able to think about becoming doctors and engineers as long as “madrasas” exist, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said. “I always advocate for non-existence of madrassas where religious inculcation is given priority over formal education. (sic),” the 53-year-old leader wrote on Twitter. He also shared a video where he can be heard saying: “This word (madrassa) should vanish. Till the time, this thought process stays, a child cannot become a doctor or an engineer. If a child is told about the outcome, he or she won’t be interested in going there. Children are admitted to a madrasa in violation of human rights.” A Delhi court will on Tuesday hear a plea seeking restoration of Hindu and Jain deities and the right to worship inside the Qutub Minar complex in New Delhi’s Mehrauli. A suit in this regard was filed on behalf of Jain deity Tirthankar Lord Rishabh Dev and Hindu deity Lord Vishnu through advocates Hari Shankar Jain and Ranjana Agnihotri. It cited a short history displayed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at the site narrating how 27 temples were demolished by Qutubdin Aibak, a general in the army of Mohamad Gauri, and Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque was raised inside the complex by reusing the material. Will Smith appears in his first interview since the slap incident between him and comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, which resulted in the actor being banned from the Oscars for 10 years. He is seen being interviewed by David Letterman for season 4 of the Netflix series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. In the interview, which was taped prior to the Oscars, Will told David about his 2021 memoir, titled Will, and the ‘pain’ stemming from his childhood. The episode was released on Netflix on May 20. KL Rahul will be leading India when they return to action in the T20I series against South Africa starting June 9, while Cheteshwar Pujara is back in the Test squad for the fifth and final Test of the series against England, scheduled to take place between July 1-5 in Edgbaston. The T20I squad features maiden India call-up for pace sensation Umran Malik, who has set the Indian Premier League on fire for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
