Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit has been appointed as the first woman vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University. Pandit will succeed M Jagadesh Kumar, who was appointed as University Grants Commission chairperson on Friday. Pandit is currently a professor in the politics and public administration department at the university in Pune. The Russia-born professor did her MPhil and PhD from JNU’s School of International Studies between 1986 and 1990. She did her master’s in political science from Chennai’s Presidency College. She has also taught at Goa University.
Hijab-clad Muslim girl students of a Karnataka college were allowed inside the premises after the days-long protest. Several colleges have banned the entry of hijab-wearing students, triggering a backlash from opposition leaders. Udupi police said that the students of government PU college will be seated in separate classrooms. Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has criticised the segregation based on dress, wondering whether the college has no copy of the Indian constitution.

Former India selector MSK Prasad said that Under-19 World Cup captain Yash Dhull could be the future number 3 for the senior team. Yash Dhull-led Indian team defeated England in the final to lift the Under-19 World Cup. This was India’s fifth title at the ICC event, which came without a single defeat in the entire campaign. According to a Cricbuzz report, Prasad said that Dhull can be India’s future number 3 in red-ball as well as white-ball cricket.
Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who died on Sunday, had a smile on her face in her final moments, Pratit Samdani of Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital said. The doctor, who had been treating her for the past three years, said her condition was deteriorating day by day. He revealed that Lata Mangeshkar always used to say that everyone should be looked after equally. She was always ready to take whatever treatment was necessary for her and never refrained from it, the doctor said.
