The central government has removed the mandatory parental consent to run physical classes in schools. In revised guidelines, it has allowed states to decide if parental consent is needed for such classes. The guidelines come as the third wave of Covid-19 abates in the country. The guidelines also focused on the smooth transition from online to classroom learning. The government has formed a panel to prepare a framework for Indian universities to set up campuses abroad. The 16-member panel will be headed by Indian Institute of Technology council standing committee chairman K Radhakrishnan. The panel has been asked to submit the framework by March 17. The UGC had amended its regulations last year and allowed premier institutes to set up campuses abroad. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday replied to the debate on the President’s address to Parliament. He slammed the government over widening disparities between the rich and the poor in the country. Gandhi said that the current dispensation was destroying the idea of India by ruling a union of states as a kingdom. He also said that the present government put the country at risk by bringing China and Pakistan together. India’s Tokyo Olympics hero Neeraj Chopra has received a nomination for the prestigious Laureus Sports Awards. He has been nominated in ‘Breakthrough of the Year’ category. Chopra will be pitted against some of the world’s best young athletes, including Daniil Medvedev and Emma Raducanu. He is the first Indian to win an Olympic gold in athletics in Tokyo. A study has linked first virus infection in infants with increased risk of respiratory infections later in life. The research has been published in Nature Microbiology. Viruses were found to interact with newborns’ immune systems in a way that affected the risk of subsequent infections. The experts said that prevention of such early viral infections may avert this risk.
