A special investigation team (SIT) of Mansa police, probing the murder of Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala, is preparing to bring gangster Lawrence Bishnoi from Delhi for questioning in the case, officials said. Bishnoi, who is the prime suspect in the murder case, was arrested by Delhi Police on Tuesday in connection with a case of arms act registered against him and his accomplices in the capital last year. “The SIT has traced the route used by the accused to escape. Some important clues were found on the abandoned vehicles used in the crime. Based on the leads during the investigation, police have arrested one person and brought two members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang from Bathinda and Ferozepur jails on production warrants. Bishnoi’s involvement is to be probed. We are sure that they have strong information regarding the case,” Toora said. The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summons to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and MP Rahul Gandhi for questioning in a money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper sparked an intense war of words between the opposition party and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the former calling it a “political ploy” and the latter questioning their reluctance in deposing before the federal agency. While Sonia Gandhi has been asked to appear before ED on June 8, Rahul was asked to appear on Thursday, according to a summons received on May 30. Congress leaders Randeep Surjewala and Abhishek Singhvi announced Sonia that will go to the ED office on the scheduled date but indicated that the party would seek time for Rahul after June 5 since he is out of the country. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in a joint operation with Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), has apprehended a Pakistan-origin boat with seven crew members on the intervening night of May 30 and 31 close to the maritime border, officials close to the development said on Wednesday. A senior official of the ATS said the vessel is suspected to be carrying contraband and will be searched thoroughly at Okha harbour on Thursday. Tamil Nadu’s health minister Ma Subramanian on Wednesday attributed the sudden mushrooming of Covid-19 clusters and spike in the infection in the city as well to the students coming from other states, but asserted that the situation is not alarming. “In Anna University, IIT (Madras), Sathya Sai (Medical College), there has been an increasing number of cases. The reason is that in several states Covid-19 cases have been increasing such as in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala. When students from these states return to the institutions, the cases spread, ” Subramanian told reporters in the presence of health secretary J Radhakrishnan. A jury on Wednesday ruled in favor of Johnny Depp in his libel lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard, vindicating his stance that Heard fabricated claims that she was abused by Johnny before and during their brief marriage. In the unanimous decision, the jury ruled that Amber defamed Johnny when she called herself a victim of domestic abuse. Amber has been ordered to pay $15 million in damages. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has said that former India captain Sourav Ganguly has not resigned as the board’s president. Shah’s clarification comes after speculation arose following a statement that Ganguly had put out to thank fans going into the 30th anniversary of the start of his journey in cricket. He also said in the statement that “today” he is “planning to start something” that he feels will “probably help a lot of people”.
