Supreme Court cancels the bail granted to Ashish Mishra, the son of Union minister Ajay Mishra ‘Teni’. Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai says the party high command will soon decide about the cabinet expansion or reshuffle, Delhi Police commissioner Rakesh Asthana says 23 people have been held so far in connection with the Jahangirpuri violence, and other top news in this bulletin. The Supreme Court on Monday cancelled the bail granted to Ashish Mishra, the son of Union minister Ajay Mishra ‘Teni’, underlining the Allahabad high court considered “irrelevant factors” and showed “unwarranted hurry” in granting the relief to the main accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. A bench, led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, directed Mishra to surrender within a week. It asked the high court to decide his bail plea afresh after giving due hearing to the victim’s families, who complained of not being provided sufficient opportunity to oppose the bail plea. Delhi Police commissioner Rakesh Asthana said a total of 23 people have been held so far in connection with the Jahangirpuri violence that broke out between two groups during a religious procession last week, while 14 teams have been formed to investigate the matter. Asthana said of the 23 people, eight have a criminal record in the past, adding that “no one involved will be spared irrespective of their class, creed and religion”. The high rate of inflation in March “is primarily due to the rise in prices of crude petroleum and natural gas, mineral oils, basic metals owing to the disruption in (the) global supply chain caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict,” the government has said. India’s wholesale price-based inflation (WPI) rose to a four-month high of 14.55 per cent in March, the latest government data showed. A day after BJP national president JP Nadda addressed ruling party workers in Karnataka, sounding the poll bugle for the 2023 assembly elections, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said the party high command will soon decide about the cabinet expansion or reshuffle. “JP Nadda ji has stated that a meeting will be held in New Delhi. The party high command will decide about cabinet expansion or reshuffle,” Bommai told reporters. Actor Sonam Kapoor, who recently announced her pregnancy, on Monday shared new pictures from her latest photoshoot. Taking to Instagram, Sonam posted the photos as she posed in a sheer black outfit with matching heels. She also tied her hair back, wore makeup and large earrings. The 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), if not entirely, will play a substantial role in making the minds of the BCCI selectors in naming the squad for the T20 World Cup slated to be held in October this year in Australia. IPL 2022 does not just offer the fringe players a chance to make their case, it also provides opportunities for fresh faces to enter the competition and former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has backed an uncapped player for the big tournament later this year.
