The Indian Embassy in Ukraine capital Kyiv on Tuesday asked its nationals, particularly students whose stay is not essential, to leave the country temporarily “in view of uncertainties of the current situation”. “Indian nationals in Ukraine, particularly students whose stay is not essential, may consider leaving temporarily. Indian nationals are also advised to avoid all nonessential travel to and within Ukraine,” the Embassy of India in Kiev stated.
Lalu Prasad, head of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and former Bihar chief minister, was convicted of fraudulent withdrawal of ₹139.35 crore from Doranda treasury in the fodder scam case by a CBI special court in Ranchi. As many as 75 of the accused, including Prasad, were convicted, while 24 were acquitted. The quantum of Prasad’s punishment will be decided on February 21. As of now, the former chief minister is under judicial custody. In a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Kumar said that he “concluded that in the present circumstances and consistent with my dignity, I can best subserve larger national causes outside the party fold”.The United States has said that India is a driving force of the Quad and an engine for regional growth, days after the fourth meeting of the strategic security bloc was held in Australia’s Melbourne on February 11. “We recognise that India is a like-minded partner and leader in South Asia and the Indian Ocean, active in and connected to Southeast Asia, a driving force of the Quad, and an engine for regional growth and development,” Karine Jean-Pierre, the principal deputy press secretary of the White House, told reporters in Washington.
