The Union home ministry told parliament it has rejected renewal of licences under the Act (FCRA), The Israel prime minister Naftali Bennett has postponed his visit to India, All progressive forces in the country should come together and fight the oppressive force says Mamata Banerjee and other top news in today's bulletin. The Union home ministry on Tuesday told parliament it has rejected renewal of licences under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) of 466 non-government organisations (NGO) since 2020 as they did not fulfil the eligibility criteria under the law. It added there were 100 refusals in 2020, 341 in 2021 and 25 this year so far. Oxfam India’s application for FCRA licence renewal was rejected in December 2021. The United Kingdom has raised the refusal with India. The Centre has also removed 5,789 organisations from FCRA ambit as they did not apply for renewal of licences, which are mandatory for receiving foreign funding. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the only party that has respected and acknowledged the contributions of all Prime Ministers. He said this in his address to BJP lawmakers at New Delhi’s Ambedkar Auditorium. Modi said the upcoming Prime Ministers Museum is an example of the BJP’s commitment to acknowledge all of them irrespective of the parties they came from, said a party person aware of the matter. Israel prime minister Naftali Bennett has postponed his visit to India, a day after testing positive for Covid, informed the spokesperson of the Israel Embassy in India Muhamed Heib on Tuesday. The spokesperson further said that the India visit would be rescheduled. Bennett tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday, after which his office informed that he is “feeling well and will continue to work while self-isolating at home.” All progressive forces in the country “should come together and fight the oppressive force,” Mamata Banerjee has said in a letter to opposition leaders and chief ministers of the non-BJP ruled states. This is yet another move by the 67-year-old leader to forge an alliance against the ruling party at the centre ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Actor Ezra Miller, who portrayed The Flash in DC’s Justice League, was arrested recently on charges of disorderly conduct and harassment at a bar in Hawaii’s Hilo. The incident took place on the intervening night of March 27-28. As per the Hawaii Police Department statement, Ezra yelled obscenities and also lunged at a person playing darts. He was later released on a bail of $500 ( ₹37,978 approximately). England’s reputation in the longer format of the game took a strong blow as Joe Root and co. endured a tough 10-wicket defeat against the West Indies in the third and final Test on Monday. The team has not been in the best of form of late and the downfall began when the team traveled to India last year. Soon after going down against India, they were rocked by New Zealand at home. India too put up a commanding show against the Three Lions at their own backyard and the 4-0 Ashes humiliation can well be called as the final nail in the coffin.
